Boosh Presents the Carrion Crown
The Journey So Far…
After having gathered in Ravengro to attend professor Lorrimor’s funeral, the heroes found themselves flung together in a grand conspiracy against the quiet town. Once finished investigating mysteries around the town that took place after the professor’s passing, they made their way to the site of his death, an old prison overlooking the city of Ravengro. The town, now besieged by undead, awaited their return. Upon entering, they uncovered a secret kept hidden for hundreds of years in the charred ruins: a desperate attempt by the warden to keep a prison break under control that ultimately ended in a fulmination of failure. The vitriol would continue into the afterlife however, and the warden would continue his long watch. That is until a group who called themselves “The Whispering Way” would seek to sabotage the spirit and his cause, weakening him with an unholy ritual in an attempt to unleash the still rioting spirits of the prisoners unto the peaceful town of Ravengro. Our heroes discovered the remains of the ritual scrawled outside on the prison walls, and found that the professor’s death was no accident. They fought their way through the prison and, with the help of a spirit claiming to be the warden’s wife, they put an end to the cultists’ last attempt to release the vengeful spirits of the prison, leading to the destruction of the site.
After rescuing the town from certain peril, one of our heroes, Jacques, bid farewell to the others and continued along his own path, choosing to venture forth into the world with the professor’s daughter, Kendra, who was eager to leave the town she once called home. The rest of the party would not rest though, until professor Lorrimor’s final request was met. They set out towards Lepidstat, a large city to the north, to deliver a trunk of books to one of Lorrimor’s colleagues at the city’s university, and continued to seek out The Whispering Way. The journey itself was not without danger though, and one of the heroes, Somun, fell while protecting a lost soul from a sinister creature that lurked the roadside and preyed upon wanderers who strayed too far.
Upon reaching Lepidstat, the heroes found the city in a great uproar with much celebration. A creature that had plagued the town for decades, dubbed the Beast of Lepidstat, had finally been caught and was awaiting trial, but, more importantly to the townspeople, an execution. The beast’s capture was none other than the destination of our group, and, when the heroes found themselves at the university delivering the doctor’s books to his colleague, they were contacted by a judge who expressed great doubt of the beast’s guilt. The heroes were charged with finding the true nature of crimes the beast was charged with and were deputized and sent out with less than a week to prove the beast’s innocence. They investigated three crime scenes and, after gathering witness testimony and evidence to present in court, they obtained a warrant to raid a local alchemy lab for the arrest of the owners. The two owners, revealed to be the true ghastly creatures behind the crimes, had been framing the beast for decades. After the trial was won by using a testimony of a key witness the heroes worked hard together to procure, they were advised to stay out of town for a few days until the townspeople could accept the truth of the crimes.
They were told by the beast to go meet with his “father” who resided in the northern part of the town, in a castle perched atop great waterfalls. Before leaving town, a couple of members of the group who did not wish to continue, Wulf and Vraxim, chose to stay with the captain of the ship and seek drunken merriment along the banks of the river. Adventuring takes its toll on a person, and their great deeds would keep them afloat in booze in the parts around Lepidstat for a lifetime to come. Here is where we left off with our heroes, after delving deep within the castle they found all manner of experiment, traps, and peril. They have explored all but one last tower in the giant structure, and have rested for the night before venturing forth. But as to what awaits them at the top of the tower, only time will tell. Now we will see if our heroes are ready to face their most dangerous and difficult test so far…
